Shami and Krishna Out of IPL After Surgeries

The upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season will see some notable absences from key players due to injuries. Fast bowlers Mohammed Shami and Prasidh Krishna, confirmed by the BCCI medical team, will not be participating in the tournament, commencing on March 22. Both players underwent surgeries earlier this year to address their injuries.

Mohammed Shami, who last represented India during the World Cup, underwent surgery for a right heel injury on February 26. His absence will be keenly felt by the Gujarat Titans, led by Shubman Gill, in the IPL 2024.

According to the BCCI, Shami is currently under observation by the medical team and has been ruled out of the upcoming TATA IPL 2024 season.

On the other hand, Prasidh Krishna of the Rajasthan Royals underwent surgery for his left proximal quadriceps tendon injury on February 23. He will also miss this edition of the IPL as he continues rehabilitation under the supervision of the BCCI Medical Team at the National Cricket Academy.

In brighter news, Rishabh Pant has been declared fit for wicketkeeping duties in IPL 2024. Pant’s return to competitive cricket marks a significant milestone following his recovery from a life-threatening accident in December 2022.

Notably, BCCI secretary Jay Shah indicated that Mohammed Shami is expected to return to action during a home Test series against Bangladesh in September. Shami’s absence will also extend to India’s T20 World Cup 2024 campaign in the West Indies and the USA, with the tournament beginning on June 1.

During the ODI World Cup, Shami emerged as India’s leading wicket-taker with 24 wickets in just 7 matches. Despite managing the heel injury during India’s journey to the final, where they were defeated by Australia, Shami’s absence will be felt across the cricketing landscape.
